I chose organic curved shapes for items such as a saddle brown leather drum lighting fixture over the couple's bed. I repeated organic shapes in the iridescent water droplet bedside sconces and again in my seating selection for the reading area. Guided by my client's love of Hollywood Glam, associated with Art Deco when Hollywood began, I balanced these curvilinear forms with sleek geometric lines. Another style that IDS' design challenge clients adored is mid-century modern, and I embraced the use of clean utilitarian furniture construction with natural wood grain. This led me to create a wood-like sauna sanctuary in the bathroom suite. The clients may quench their need for adventure within this space in a lush yet understated environment.

Overall, I created a bathroom that is seamlessly accessible, luxurious and a refuge from the demands of everyday life. I incorporated biophilic design, bringing natural elements into the interior environment to improve our quality of life. So, I opened the ceiling and installed a lantern skylight to allow sunlight to pour into the space. I chose surface materials that showcase raw natural patterns, such as veined marble and fully-grained wood planking. The verdant coasts of Western Africa influenced my color palette, and I selected rich hues of ochre, bone, mahogany, and moss. To meet the therapeutic needs of my active clients, I placed importance on their access to a submersible bath. I also created a magnificent shower that massages water jets throughout with plenty of room to spare.

HUBBARDTON FORGE
DESIGN CHALLENGE STUDENT AWARD
2020

INTERNATIONAL AWARD

During the Spring of 2020, Hubbardton Forge invited designers to create a mood board featuring their gorgeous lighting to reflect our current space or dream space. This inspired me to create a patio retreat that one could easily visit. Traditional patterned Nigerian fabrics inspired me. I wanted to reflect the curvy lines in these fabrics throughout the furnishings and lighting selections. I also specified aged bronze finished lighting fixtures and pottery to mirror traditional sculptures found throughout Nigeria.
